Abdullah Adewumi Sulaiman
Full Artist Bio
Abdullah is a very talented and prolific artist who is comfortable with using all media for the production of his master class artworks.
His first encounter with the arts happened at an early age when he would sit and watch his dad (who was also a very good artist but who did not carry it on as a career) sketch and paint in his study. This experience strongly influenced his flair for painting and sketching which he gradually builds by copying the images of the Marvel comic heroes and DC comic characters. He further progressed in his artistic journey by sketching classmates while in high school. The change of environment also impacted positively on him when his parents relocated to the United Kingdom. This further led to his exposure to more advanced art experience and an opportunity to directly observe and study early masters such as Rembrandt, Seurat, Picasso, Caravaggio, among others when he would visit art galleries and museums one of which is the Kelvin Groove Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow Scotland.
Abdullah is a self-trained artist who has been able to perfect his styles and honed his skill from the attendance of several workshops organized by contemporary masters in the fine and creative arts field. One of such master is the late Everett Raymond Kinstler, the renowned painter who has painted many of the portraits of US presidents in the White House.
Abdullah enjoys painting and sketching portraitures both from life and with the use of picture references. He also loves to paint varieties of themes and concept according to his interest. His works are usually from drawing and painting objects from life studies, but whenever the need arises he switched to photo references. Also, customer preference sometimes influences his choice of theme. But importantly, he strives as much with every one of his finished works to breathe life into the long-forgotten cultures so that their designs, ideas, innovations, and lifestyle are beautifully displayed on either his canvass or drawing papers. This is one of the reasons why most of his works represent the cultural sceneries from either a local tribe or landscape.
Most of his works were done in paint media ranging from oil, pastel, watercolor, and gouache. While his drawings are achieved using high-quality charcoal sticks and pencils, graphite, Conte, nu-pastel and ink. His style of rendition is more of an impressionist-expressionist style which can be clearly observed in most of his works. Most of his inspiration comes from observing nature, either from human beings or other natural objects. He loves to paint and draw the urban and rural landscapes as well as other subjects of interests such as animals and still life objects.
In his over 15 years of doing art, Abdullah has won several awards and he has also been honored with solo shows, the latest which he did in June 2019 at the Muzium and Galeri Tuanku Fauziyah, University Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. He has exhibited in Africa, Europe, Asia, and America and his works adorned the walls of high-end collectors in all continents that he has exhibited.
Abdullah practice as a studio artist who work based on theme of interest. However, he also has the flexibility of representing clients’ interests through patronage and custom commissions.
